ALBUQUERQUE ACADEMY $5 MILLION SOLAR ARRAY

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

  • The Albuquerque Academy Solar Array is the culmination of a $5 million dollar 90-day project consisting of over 5,000 panels.
  • It will provide over 2 million kilowatt hours of electricity to the school annually, about 25% of the schools energy use.

Financing

  • As a non-profit organization, Albuquerque Academy isn’t eligible for many of the renewable energy tax credits. Instead they are acting as a “solar host” for the array, which is actually financed and owned by third parties who are eligible for these credits.
  • The school provides the land for the array and promises to purchase the low cost energy for 20 years while the other companies put up the $5 million necessary to pay for the system.
  • This mutually beneficial collaboration will result in a dramatic reduction in the school’s energy costs and carbon footprint, all without cutting into the school’s operating budget.
  • What’s even better is that, as the price of traditional energy rises, the school’s annual savings will increase.
  • After 20 years, Albuquerque Academy will assume ownership of the array.

ALBUQUERQUE SUNPORT SOLAR ARRAY

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

  • The city of Albuquerque recently contracted Consolidated Solar Technologies, LLC and Mosher Enterprises, Inc. to design, engineer and integrate a large solar photovoltaic (PV) array for the Albuquerque International Sunport. It was the city’s intent to utilize an existing structure that would be the most efficient and cost effective site to produce renewable energy.
  • The solar system creates potential savings for Albuquerque including renewable energy credits of $65,037 per year. It is also a hedge against rising energy costs of the Sunport’s traditional utility-generated energy needs

DEPARTMENT of VETERANS AFFAIRS SOLAR ARRAY

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

  • Consolidated Solar Technologies, in partnership with Mosher Enterprises and Eaton, have provided a total “turnkey” project for the Albuquerque Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System. The scope of the $20 million contract included designing and installing a 3.2 megawatt PV system throughout the site, including car port and roofmounted arrays, as well as implementing a building-integrated system to help reduce demand from the local utility grid. The system provides covered parking for VA staff and patients as well as produce over 20 percent of the hospital’s annual electricity use.

SANDIA PREPARATORY SCHOOL

In an effort to maximize the energy savings for Sandia Prep, CST creatively utilized a variety of solar mounting solutions to install arrays at three locations within the school. CST’s innovative design and unique product solutions minimize the weight of the arrays while providing for efficient system operation. In alignment with CST’s commitment to support local economy, both the PV modules and racking components were obtained from local manufacturers.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

Main Facility
  • 125.02 kW solar array comprised of 532 SCHOTT PV modules
  • This array utilizes both UniRac’s SolarMount rail mounting system, which is attached to a standing seam metal roof with non-penetrating clamps, and UniRac’s iSys fixed-tilt ground mount system.
Field House
  • 55.93 kW solar array comprised of 238 SCHOTT PV modules
  • This array is mounted on UniRac’s G10 self-ballasting 10º tilt rooftop racking.
Theatre
  • 92.12 kW solar array comprised of 392 SCHOTT PV modules
  • This array is mounted atop Schletter’s Carport system, which maximizes energy savings and also provides shading for 62 parking stalls.

TONEY ANAYA BUILDING

CST and sister company Mosher Enterprises teamed up to design and install an elegant solar solution for the Toney Anaya Building, a New Mexico state government building. The technology behind the SCHOTT PV modules allows the system to be compact and streamlined, which boosts energy production per square foot by maximizing the use of the space available within the footprint of the array.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

  • 111.2 kW solar array with 494 SCHOTT PV modules
  • Non-penetrating Unirac G10 RapidRac was utilized to organize the modules into tight fixed-tilt sub-arrays to minimize row-to-row spacing.

JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER OF GREATER ALBUQUERQUE

CST designed and installed a state-of-the-art solar array for the JCC that helps to offset approximately 50% of annual energy expenses. Utilizing renewable energy is in alignment with the JCC’s mission, “We like working with CST and we love helping to save our environment for future generations”, said JCC President Art Gardenswartz.

  • 110.4 kW solar array consisting of 480 SunPower PV modules
  • The rooftop array is mounted on the UniRac RapidRac self-ballasted racking system.

CLOVIS CIVIC CENTER & CARVER LIBRARY

For the Clovis Civic Center and the Clovis Carver Library, CST installed high-efficiency, monocrystalline SunPower PV modules in order to maximize system capacity, and thus the energy savings per square foot of the array footprint.

Clovis Civic Center

  • 91.58 kW solar array split into two sub-arrays
  • The module laminates are integrated into a rigid, durable polycarbonate frame that tilts the modules at 5 degrees, and provides for a non-penetrating, self-ballasting rooftop array.

Clovis Carver Library

  • 17.81 kW SunPower solar array
  • These module laminates are also integrated into a non-penetrating rigid, durable polycarbonate frame with a 5-degree tilt.

CORRALES RECREATION CENTER PV SYSTEM

Because the Corrales Recreation Center utilized a Solar Power Purchase Agreement (SPPA) for their array, CST performed a detailed analysis of historical energy consumption in order to properly size and design the system to support maximum economic value.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

  • 19.74 kW solar array is comprised of 84 Schott PV modules
  • The racking was designed to emulate a carport or shade structure that provides 9 feet of clearance on the leading edge to allow for vehicular access beneath the array.

Project Information

  • On June 30, 2010, the American Reinvestment & Recovery Act provided $300,000 for fifteen public schools throughout New Mexico to purchase and install 50 kW solar energy systems. The projects were to be complete by December 31st – a short six month span. CST worked at record speed to fully install and activate systems at 6 schools in just 6 months.
  • Each system consists of 228 – 234 Schott PV modules mounted on 9 UniRac iSys Ground Mounts, except for Belen Consolidated School District, which utilized UniRac RapidRac Roof Mounts. The following school districts contracted with CST as their solar integrator:
    • Los Lunas Public Schools
    • Belen Consolidated School District
    • Dulce School District
    • Moriarty/Edgewood Public Schools
    • Rio Rancho Public Schools
    • Hatch Valley Public Schools
